Hiring a doula in Orem, Utah: cost, support, and questions to ask
The Dandelion Doula provides nonmedical birth support for families in Orem and Utah County. Megan offers Birth-Only, Standard Doula, and Extra Support packages. Each includes continuous labor and birth support; prenatal meetings, on-call periods, and postpartum visits vary by package.
What does a birth doula do?
A doula helps you prepare for birth and supports you through labor. That can mean practicing comfort techniques before your due date, helping you communicate your preferences, and supporting your partner during a long night.
A doula provides nonmedical support. Your midwife, obstetrician, and nursing team remain responsible for clinical care. ACOG describes doulas as part of a collaborative care team, with a role in physical support, emotional support, education, and self-advocacy.
How much does a doula cost in Orem?
Megan offers three packages: Birth-Only, Standard Doula, and Extra Support. Compare the prices and inclusions above to find the level of support you want. These rates apply to The Dandelion Doula.
When comparing quotes, check how many prenatal meetings are included, when on-call coverage begins, and what happens if labor overlaps another client’s birth. Ask about additional charges and read the payment and cancellation terms before booking.
How do Megan’s doula packages differ?
Birth-Only focuses on labor and birth, with one pre-birth coffee shop meeting. Standard Doula adds two prenatal visits and a postpartum visit. Extra Support includes everything in Standard Doula, plus one additional prenatal visit and one additional postpartum visit.
The package details above show the on-call periods and visit inclusions. Think about how much time you want to prepare together and whether you would value a visit at home after birth. If your partner wants a clearer role, bring that up during your consultation.
Can a doula support my partner too?
Megan’s approach includes caring for you alongside your partner. You can discuss whether your partner wants help with comfort techniques, reminders to rest and eat, or support finding the words for a question.
Your partner knows you in ways a doula will be learning. Talking about those preferences before labor gives both people a better starting point.
What should I ask before hiring a doula in Utah County?
Bring your due date and planned birth location to the first conversation. These questions help you compare the actual service you will receive:
- Are you available around my due date, and do you serve my planned birth location?
- When does on-call support begin, and how do I contact you in labor?
- Who provides backup if you are unavailable?
- How do you support my preferences if my birth plan changes?
- What prenatal and postpartum visits are included?
- What are the payment, cancellation, and refund terms?
- What training and experience are relevant to the support I am looking for?
Does a doula replace a midwife or an obstetrician?
No. A doula offers nonmedical support alongside your licensed care team. Questions about diagnosis, medication, monitoring, or treatment should go to the clinicians responsible for your care.
During your doula consultation, talk about how you want to ask questions and receive information. That conversation can help Megan understand how to support you when decisions come up.
Is postpartum care included with birth support?
Standard Doula includes one postpartum visit with a meal, foot bath, and gift for mother and baby. Extra Support includes a second postpartum visit with a meal. Birth-Only does not list a postpartum visit.
Talk with Megan before booking about the help you expect to need after birth. Ask what can be covered during a visit and what would require separate arrangements.
